Here are the latest Scottish Premiership transfer rumours of the day as on 13.1.2024.
Kai Wagner won’t be joining Rangers
A bit of an obvious one!
Kai Wagner has put an end to talk about a possible transfer to the Rangers by signing a new long-term contract with the Philadelphia Union as per Scottish Sun. With Borna Barisic’s contract about to expire at the end of the season, the Ibrox club was allegedly evaluating him as a possible replacement left-back.
Philippe Clement has made adjustments to the team inherited from Michael Beale, including bringing in Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves. Any chances of obtaining Wagner’s services have been shattered, as he has now signed a contract with the MLS club that would keep him on the team until 2026, with an option to extend the term until 2027.
Celtic in talks with Mathias Kvistgaarden
Celtic are in discussions with Brondby, a team from Denmark, about getting Mathias Kvistgaarden, a 21-year-old striker. The Hoops want to sign him this month because they need more players for their attack.
Some of their players are not available because they’re playing in the Asian Cup, like Hyeongyu Oh, Daizen Maeda, and Hyunjun Yang. Kvistgaarden has been doing well in the Danish league this season, scoring seven goals and creating seven assists in 21 games.
Rangers interested in Lawrence Shankland
A bit of of a dubious sourcing on this one to be honest. Football Insider had a report that Rangers are trying to sign Lawrence Shankland from Hearts this month.
Shankland, who is currently the top scorer in the Scottish Premiership with 13 goals, is interested in moving to Ibrox. Rangers are talking again about getting him as they want to add another forward before the transfer window closes. Shankland has been often connected with a move to Rangers due to his impressive performances for Hearts in recent seasons.
Ricki Lamie likely to join Dundee
Dundee are getting set to sign Ricki Lamie for a longer stay at Dens Park. Currently on a season-long loan from Motherwell, the 30-year-old center-back is in talks for a pre-contract that will extend his time with Dundee beyond the summer.
Ridvan Yilmaz to leave Rangers
Reports suggest that Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz is very close to leaving Ibrox on loan. Yilmaz hasn’t been the main left-back for Rangers, as Borna Barisic is still the top choice for the manager. Even though Yilmaz has shown his talent in patches, he hasn’t played regularly, and this might lead to him leaving the club in the January transfer window. Rangers are also looking for a new left-back since Barisic’s contract is ending in the summer.
Very strange though that the left back started in the friendly for Rangers today.
