Scottish Premiership transfer rumours: Oscar Cortes close to Rangers, James Penrice could join Hearts and more

Here are the latest Scottish Premiership transfer rumours of the day as on 29.1.2024.

Hearts want James Penrice

According to several reports, Livingston defender James Penrice has spoken with Hearts about joining them in the summer. He’s 25 years old and can sign a pre-contract immediately, as his current agreement with Livingston expires at the conclusion of the season.

Hearts believe Penrice’s versatility will benefit their club in the 2024/25 season. Penrice has been a consistent player for Livingston, appearing 29 times this season. However, if the Scottish Premiership club are relegated to the Championship, he may not want to stay with them for the next season. Livingston is currently at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership table.

Lens winger Oscar Cortes is heading to Rangers as per reports. He will be Philippe Clement’s third January signing. Fabio Silva came on loan from Wolves, and Mohamed Diomande joined from FC Nordsjaelland last week. According to reports in South America, a deal has been made to bring in 20-year-old right winger Cortes from French Ligue 1 team Lens.

Alex Cochrane to continue with Hearts

Hearts are thinking about keeping Alex Cochrane in their team for the rest of the season, even though teams from England are interested in him. The 23-year-old defender’s contract lasts until 2025, which is good news for Hearts.

They have set a price of £2 million for him this month. Teams like Burnley and Blackburn Rovers were interested, but it seems he might stay with Hearts even after Thursday’s deadline.

Joe Hart’s future with Celtic uncertain

Joe Hart says winning another title is more important to him than getting a new contract with Celtic, as his future with the team is uncertain. The former England goalkeeper signed a three-year deal in 2021, and with just a few months left, there’s no news of a new goalkeeper coming to Glasgow.

Time seems to be running out for Hart, and there are rumours of Celtic considering players like Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher and Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin as potential replacements while Brendan Rodgers searches for a long-term solution.

Yan Dhanda signs contract with Hearts

Yan Dhanda will join Hearts in the summer after signing a pre-contract agreement as per Football Scotland. The 25-year-old has decided to leave Ross County when his current contract ends, but there’s a possibility that Steven Naismith’s team might try to arrange a move for him before the January transfer window closes.

This could help County get some sort of fee for him, as he would otherwise leave for free in six months. Dhanda has been more than decent for Ross County since coming from Swansea in 2022.
