Romeo Lavia might be unable to play for some time after suffering another injury in December. He joined Chelsea from Southampton last summer, but he was sidelined with a knee injury before making his debut. He was finally able to play in late December, but he was injured again after only one game. According to reports, his current injury is more serious than previously imagined.
Romeo Lavia is more suited to Manchester City
Kalvin Phillips didn’t have a good beginning at Manchester City, as per a recent report. His early training sessions with the team were not smooth. This information comes in the same week when it seems like his time at the club is about to finish, after joining from Leeds United in 2022.
Phillips is about to join West Ham United on a loan deal for six months. The team’s manager, David Moyes, wants to give the 28-year-old player a chance to revive his career and maybe make it to the European Championships. Phillips didn’t get much playing time under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, especially in important matches. A recent report suggests that Manchester City coaches thought Romeo Lavia, who is now with Chelsea, was a better fit for the holding midfield role in Guardiola’s team, even after just a few training sessions.
Manchester City coaches felt that now-Chelsea star Romeo Lavia was ‘more suited’ to playing the holding midfield role in Pep Guardiola’s side than Kalvin Phillips after just a few of his first training sessions with the club.

Guardiola wanted Kalvin Phillips to play in a way that slows down the game and take the ball from the goalkeeper, even when facing pressure from the other team. However, Phillips couldn’t do this consistently. Just a few days after Phillips moved from Leeds United, Romeo Lavia, who used to be at Manchester City, left the club and joined Southampton. He signed a five-year contract, and the deal was valued at about £14 million. City kept the option to buy him back for £40 million and would get 20% of the selling price if Southampton sells him.
Just one year later, the chance to bring back the player in the future disappeared. Chelsea got him instead of Liverpool. He signed a seven-year contract, and the deal was around £53 million plus extra payments. It’s not very likely that Manchester City will try to get Lavia back from Chelsea in the future. Also, with Lavia having some worrying injuries in his first six months at Stamford Bridge, City management are more likely to search for other options.
