In a recent report, Marca claimed that Real Madrid are showing interest in Manchester City full-back Yan Couto who is currently playing on loan at Girona. It is believed that Los Blancos are keeping tabs on the Brazilian youngster.
Couto’s Impressive Run Of Form In Spanish Football
Couto is having a decent campaign at the Spanish club as he has put in a series of impressive displays on the right side of their defence. The Brazilian sensation has done well to score two goals and grab seven assists in 24 matches for Girona this season on all fronts.
The 21-year-old has caught the eye on the right flank by averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.6 clearances, 0.9 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession after making 84.2% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Couto is under contract at his parent club Manchester City in the summer of 2025. Hence, Real Madrid could potentially land him on a cut-price deal at the end of this season.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Move In For Couto?
Couto is a tough-tackling full-back who can make a few important clearances inside his half. He can strike the ball with power from long range and can engineer a few promising chances for his teammates from the right flank.
The Brazilian talent is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. He is primarily a right-back but can also fill in as a right-winger if told to do so by his manager. We can expect Couto to bring more quality to Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s match-day squad.
At 21, the Brazilian has the potential to become a generational talent and could prove himself to be a success story at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the long run. Thus, Ancelotti would be wise to move in for Couto at the end of this campaign when he would just have a year left in his Man City contract.
Couto is good enough to serve as an ideal successor to Dani Carvajal at the Madrid club. He could even help Los Blancos challenge for some major honours over the next decade which makes him a great option for Ancelotti to pursue next summer.
