In a recent report, Sport revealed that Real Madrid are hoping to re-sign Al-Ittihad forward Karim Benzema. It has been stated that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to bring the French striker back to the Spanish capital but could face competition from Arsenal and Chelsea in pursuit of him.
Benzema’s Impressive Season In Saudi Arabia
Benzema has enjoyed a decent campaign in Saudi Arabia as he has put in a run of productive displays as the focal point of Al-Ittihad’s attack. The France international has banged in 12 goals and picked up five assists in 20 matches for his current employers this season in all competitions.
The 36-year-old has caught the eye at times with his performances at Al-Ittihad but could be enticed with a chance to seal a move back to Europe this year. His current deal at the Saudi club will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, Real Madrid would have to make a good offer if they are serious about re-signing him this winter or at the end of this campaign.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Bring Benzema Back?
Benzema can create a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in on-target. He can create a few decent chances for his teammates up top and remains a lethal finisher in front of the opposition goal. The French sensation can also make some clever runs in and around the opponent’s penalty area. However, at 36, he is a player on the decline.
Benzema already knows Real Madrid well from his long and successful spell with them, so he won’t take much time to settle into life in the Spanish capital. He is good enough to help Los Blancos secure the La Liga title and maybe even challenge for the UEFA Champions League trophy this season.
Therefore, it makes sense for the Madrid giants to go all out to bring Benzema back to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium before the end of this January transfer window. He is vastly experienced and has got the winning mentality to be a useful member of Ancelotti’s match-day squad. Hence, Benzema would be an excellent signing for Los Blancos in the short-term.
