In a recent report, Sport BILD mentioned that Real Madrid are facing stiff competition for Bayer 04 Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz. It has been stated that Los Blancos will have to rival Manchester City and Bayern Munich in the race to land the German attacker.
Wirtz’s Impressive Run Of Form In Bundesliga
Wirtz has enjoyed a productive campaign at the German club after he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the final third. The German talent has banged in eight goals and grabbed 12 assists in 24 appearances for Leverkusen this season on all fronts.
The 20-year-old was a consistent performer in the opponent’s half and deserves credit for averaging 2.0 shots, 2.2 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball after making 84.1% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, it won’t be easy for Los Blancos to sign Wirtz on the cheap before the end of this month.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Move In For Wirtz?
Wirtz is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball in the final third. He has got the vision to create a few promising chances for his teammates in the attacking end of the field.
The German sensation can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range as well. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a winger on either flank if asked to do so.
We can expect Wirtz to bring more quality to Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti‘s frontline. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the Madrid club in the coming seasons.
At 20, Wirtz has the potential to become a generational talent as long as he continues to improve with each season. Hence, Ancelotti would be wise to move in for him before the end of this winter transfer period. However, only time will tell whether the German whizkid can make a smooth transition to life in the Spanish capital.
