In a recent report, Goal Brazil stated that Newcastle United are showing interest in Atalanta midfielder Ederson. It has been mentioned that the Magpies are eyeing a move to bring the Brazilian talent to St. James’ Park in the summer.
Ederson’s Good Run Of Form In Serie A
Ederson is having an impressive campaign at the Italian club after putting in a run of solid performances for them in the middle of the park. The 24-year-old has scored six goals and grabbed one assist in 28 matches for Atalanta this season across multiple competitions.
The Brazilian midfield ace has been a positive influence at the centre of the park based on his average of 2.6 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 1.2 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even been careful when distributing possession from midfield after completing 83.8% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Ederson is under contract at Atalanta until the summer of 2026 which would make it difficult for the Magpies to sign him on the cheap at the end of this season.
Is Ederson A Good Option For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Ederson is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his side at the centre of the park. He usually clears his lines when needed and can create the odd chance for his teammates up top.
The Brazilian sensation can even shoot the ball with power from long range and is an energetic dribbler with the ball from midfield. He mainly functions as a box-to-box midfielder but can also play as a holding midfielder or in the number ten position if told to do so.
We can expect Ederson to add more quality and depth to Newcastle‘s midfield department. He is more than capable of fighting for a regular starting spot in Eddie Howe‘s first XI in the coming seasons.
At 24, Ederson has got his best years ahead of him which makes him an excellent option for the Magpies to consider in the summer. However, there are some question marks over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in English football if Howe manages to bring him to St. James’ Park later this year.
