In a recent report, Premier League Brasil mentioned that Newcastle United are showing interest in Atalanta midfielder Ederson. It is understood that the Magpies have identified the Brazilian talent as a transfer target.
Ederson’s Impressive Run Of Form In Serie A
Ederson has enjoyed a fine campaign at the Italian club after he put in a string of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 24-year-old has registered six goals and secured one assist in 27 appearances for Atalanta this season in various competitions.
The Brazilian sensation has been a consistent performer in both halves as he is averaging 2.5 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 1.3 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield after making 83.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Atalanta will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Magpies to seal a move for him in this winter transfer window.
Is Ederson A Good Option For Newcastle United?
Ederson is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when needed and can shoot the ball purely from long range.
The Brazilian midfield ace can set up some decent plays for his teammates up top and is a good dribbler with the ball as well. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate in the number ten position or play as a defensive midfielder if needed.
We can expect Ederson to enhance the quality of Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s starting XI. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at St. James’ Park as long as he can make a smooth transition to life at Tyneside.
At 24, Ederson will only get better with each year which makes him a great option for the Magpies to consider in this January transfer window. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the physicality and high intensity of Premier League football if Howe can snap him up soon.
