Thiago Silva feels he’s nearly finished playing for Chelsea. He wants to achieve something significant at Wembley after Chelsea defeated Middlesbrough 6-1 and advanced to the Carabao Cup final. They lost the opening game, 1-0, but recovered. They will face either Liverpool or Fulham in the final.
Thiago Silva on his future
Thiago Silva feels very calm about what will happen next in his career. His contract with Chelsea ends this summer, and there’s talk about him going back to Brazil. Fluminense, his old team, wants him, but it’s not known yet if he will stay with Chelsea.
Frank Lampard brought in Thiago Silva as a quick solution in the summer of 2020, thinking it would be for a short time. However, Silva has played more than 140 games for Chelsea since then and is still a key player in defense, even at almost 40 years old.
“I don’t have anything scheduled for later. There’s nothing scheduled here. I’m just looking to have fun. We know [my career] is almost over, but it’s not the end yet, so pick the right time. I’m still able to maintain a good performance. My numbers are good. This gives me peace of mind to continue. Now, the future belongs to God. Let’s finish well here, this and those four months and see what has to happen going forward. But I’m super relaxed about that. [My relationship with the Chelsea fans] is a source of great pride. In such a short time I managed to conquer them in such a passionate way. We can say that, right?” Silva said.
“It was very, very fast and I am happy every time I play here. It’s different and special and emotional. I know that with each game that ends I have a feeling that it’s ending, so that makes me a little sad. But happy with the performance on the field, which is the most important,” he added.
Silva played the whole game on Wednesday as Chelsea won 6-1 against Middlesbrough, making it to the Carabao Cup final. He really wants to win at Wembley.
“Now we have another final at Wembley. If I’m not mistaken, the three times I went there, I lost all three. So, I think it is time to win, right?” he said.
