Jurgen Klopp said he’s going to take a break for about a year after leaving Liverpool in the coming months. He’s been the manager there for over eight years, but now he feels tired and wants some time off.
Jurgen Klopp on his future
Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool fans that he won’t manage any other English team. The 56-year-old German surprised everyone by saying he’ll leave his position as the Reds’ boss after almost nine years. During his time, Liverpool won six big trophies, like the Premier League in 2020 and the Champions League in 2019.
Klopp said he won’t pick the next person for his job. He’s firm on leaving and explained he can’t keep up the high energy needed for top-level management after this season, saying you have to be the best version of yourself.
Klopp made sure Liverpool fans don’t worry that he might come back to manage another team that competes with Liverpool.
“Whatever will happen in the future I don’t know now, but no club, no country, for the next year, and no other English club ever. I can promise that, even if I have nothing to eat that will not happen,” Klopp said.

People are already guessing who might take Klopp’s place at Liverpool. Xabi Alonso, a former Liverpool player, is the top choice according to reports. Alonso says he’s focused on his current job and is in the right place. Steven Gerrard, an ex-captain of Liverpool who’s now with Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, is also mentioned. Klopp is clear that he won’t be involved in choosing the new manager for Liverpool.
“The last thing they need is advice from the old man walking out, telling them ‘make sure you bring him in’ or whatever – I will definitely not do that. I wish this club the very, very, very best,” he added.
