Liverpool entertained Newcastle United at Anfield earlier tonight as they looked to earn all three points at home in the Premier League. The Reds made a decent start to the game but were lackluster in the final third. Jurgen Klopp‘s men went into the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
Mohamed Salah scored the opening goal in the 49th minute which was cancelled out by Alexander Isak’s finish just five minutes later. Curtis Jones gave Liverpool the lead once again in the 74th minute before Cody Gakpo made it 3-1 just four minutes later. Sven Botman got a goal back for Newcastle in the 81st minute but Mohamed Salah killed the game off for the Reds from the penalty spot in the 86th minute. The contest ended with the Merseyside giants securing an impressive 4-2 win in front of their home fans.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player fared during the clash against the Magpies.

The Brazilian keeper made one solid save during the game and won’t be pleased after conceding twice tonight.

He earned the ball back a few times for his team and was a threat going forward.
CB: Ibrahima Konate – 6.5/10
Konate got stuck in with a couple of solid tackles and was good on the ball.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 6/10
He kept a good shape at the back for most of the game but was caught napping in the lead-up to Isak’s goal in the second half.
LB: Joe Gomez – 6.5/10
Gomez caught the eye at both ends of the field.
CM: Dominik Szoboszlai – 7/10

Salah was a constant menace in the final third. He ended the game with two goals and an assist to his name but would be disappointed for failing to convert his first-half penalty.

He ran the channels well and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
LW: Luis Diaz – 7.5/10
Diaz was a real threat on the left flank and was responsible for making a handful of dangerous runs with the ball.
