Argentina’s President Javier Meili keeps saying that it’s important for the country’s football clubs to turn into Sports Joint Stock Companies (SADs). He thinks it’s really necessary. In December, Meili said Chelsea wanted to buy an Argentine team. Now, he shared with Radio Miter the names of the clubs interested in buying the English team, and one of them is Boca Juniors.
Javier Meili on Chelsea buying Argentina football clubs
Chelsea is attempting to purchase Lionel Messi’s old team, Newell’s Old Boys, according to the new president of Argentina, Javier Milei. Ever since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took control of Chelsea, they’ve started a plan to have multiple clubs, similar to what Manchester City has.
The group that officially owns Chelsea, called BlueCo, has started to buy the French team Strasbourg and is looking at the chance to get more clubs. Chelsea is also searching for a team in Argentina, and they might take over Messi’s old club, Newell’s Old Boys, and Boca Juniors. According to Milei’s comments on TyC Sports, the process for this move has already begun.

“We have the desire expressed by Chelsea to buy Boca Juniors, Racing, Estudiantes, Newell’s or Lanus. It’s quick money,” Meili said.
“If the members of these clubs do not want to, they will continue with the current system. I am a member and supporter of Boca and if investment groups come and put a fortune in for us to always win, where do I sign?” he added.

Milei, who recently became the leader of Argentina, wants to make big changes to the country’s economy and hopes to attract new investments.
“There are Arab groups waiting to invest $3 billion. Investments can come very quickly. It’s a very easy activity, there is no need to set up huge machinery or wait two years as if you were creating a factory,” he further added.
Teams like Chelsea and Man City usually buy clubs that are not at the top but still decent. However, in Argentina, it looks like Chelsea might buy one of the oldest and most famous clubs. Fans of Strasbourg are upset about Chelsea taking over their club, and they protest at the stadium. But in Argentina, it seems like there won’t be as much resistance, even with Messi’s old club being available for purchase.
