Ex-Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer believes the Blues should sign Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal during the January transfer window. Ramsdale, 25, isn’t seeing much action right now because Brentford’s David Raya has joined on loan. Ramsdale appeared nine matches and recorded three clean sheets. He appeared in 41 games last season.
Mark Schwarzer on Aaron Ramsdale
Mark Schwarzer claims Chelsea should sign Aaron Ramsdale. Ramsdale is not the main goalkeeper for Arsenal anymore because David Raya took his place this season.
But, in the last few seasons, the English goalkeeper has shown that he can play really well in the Premier League. News from last month mentioned that Chelsea is thinking about getting Arsenal’s Ramsdale this January. Schwarzer thinks it could be a perfect fit for both teams.
Talking about Ramsdale, Schwarzer said it would be a good idea for him to join Chelsea. He thinks Ramsdale would be better than Chelsea’s current goalkeepers, Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic.
“And yet his time at the Emirates is up and he must leave for the good of his own career, his wellbeing and his quality. He needs to be playing week in, week out. He’s far too good to be sitting on the bench as a bit-part player at Arsenal. For me, there’s an obvious destination, too,” Schwarzer said.

“For all the money Chelsea have spent on new players, their goalkeeping department is not up to scratch and their current situation proves it. Robert Sanchez is out injured, meaning an inexperienced Djordje Petrovic, who is talented, is between the sticks. Even with a fit Sanchez back, Ramsdale supersedes both of them. Sanchez, their current No.1, is not at Ramsdale’s level. Yes, he’s very good with the ball in his hands and his distribution from his hands is good – but with the ball at his feet, he is questionable. In fact, I don’t think his overall goalkeeping quality is that of international standard. Chelsea need a top-class goalkeeper and currently I don’t believe they have one. Ramsdale would suit Chelsea well and while solving their goalkeeper problem, he would also fill the leadership vacuum the club currently has,” he added.
When he’s in form, the English goalkeeper is really good. However, he’s not the top goalkeeper that Chelsea really needs right now.
