Chelsea legend William Gallas believes Conor Gallagher is not good enough for Chelsea. Recently, Gallagher has been playing a lot under manager Mauricio Pochettino. Gallas thinks Gallagher makes Chelsea slow and claims the English midfielder doesn’t have good technical skills.
William Gallas criticizes Conor Gallagher
William Gallas claims that Conor Gallagher is not as good as Chelsea’s other midfielders Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez. Despite this, Gallagher has played a lot under coach Mauricio Pochettino and even got to be the captain when Reece James wasn’t there. Gallagher has given four assists in 26 games this season.
The 23-year-old is known for playing hard, with lots of energy, and doing well both in defense and attack. He’s been doing great for Chelsea this season. But Gallas thinks most people agree that the English player can sometimes slow down his team’s flow.
“Conor Gallagher is a great runner but quality-wise, he isn’t the same as Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo. I think it’s the opinion of many people that he slows Chelsea down a bit and maybe they need to change their system,” Gallas said via Simon Phillips.

It’s not sure what will happen to Gallagher at Chelsea because his contract is ending in just over a year. Some say Chelsea might consider offers around £50 million for him. But Pochettino, the coach, keeps supporting Gallagher even though people are talking about his future.
“It’s difficult for the coach to talk… it’s up to club and player. It’s going to be a decision of the club and Gallagher. I can give my advice. So far, Conor is doing fantastic for the team,” Pochettino said.
Chelsea got Caicedo, who is 22, and Fernandez, who is 23, in the last two transfer windows. They spent a lot of money each time, breaking the record. These two players are more technically gifted and better at passing the ball, unlike Gallagher, who often deals with pressing for his team.
