Christopher Nkunku, the star forward for Chelsea, will be on the bench for Saturday’s FA Cup encounter against Preston. He had a problem earlier this week, which could be related to his knee injury, which has bothered him since joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig in the summer. He has only appeared in four games in various competitions so far.
Christopher Nkunku won’t start against Preston
Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino have more problems because Christopher Nkunku can’t play in the game against Preston. Now, the only experienced striker in Chelsea’s team is Armando Broja because Nicolas Jackson is with his Senegal teammates for the African Cup of Nations.
“Armando, it’s a possibility to play for him. I am going to tell you Christoph [Nkunku] is not going to start tomorrow as he suffered issues during the week but he is going to be in the squad. We need to be carefull with him. Armando has the possibility to be more involved as he is one of our main striker. Amazing potential and qualities and now is to forget his injury of last year. Not too many changes. Playing with the circumstances of course, not going to change too much the team. Once or twice, players normally not in the starting XI but we need to anticipate problems. We take like a Premier League game, it’s not because it’s the FA Cup. Full respect to Preston and tomorrow you will see,” Pochettino said.
Pochettino also said that Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka won’t be playing against Preston in the FA Cup on Saturday, even though they joined full team training this week. Both players haven’t been in action since October. Chelsea is facing many injuries, with players like Reece James, Marc Cucurella, and Robert Sanchez recently getting sidelined. Also, Romeo Lavia, Benoit Badiashile, Christopher Nkunku, and Lesley Ugochukwu won’t be able to play in the game.
