Real Madrid faced off against Atletico Madrid at the Al-Awwal Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to secure a win in the Spanish Super Cup. Los Blancos made a slow start to the game and conceded the opening goal in the sixth minute when Mario Hermoso found the back of the net. However, Antonio Rudiger equalised for Real Madrid in the 20th minute before Ferland Mendy completed the turnaround just nine minutes later. Antoine Griezmann equalised for Diego Simeone’s side in the 37th minute as both Madrid clubs went into the half-time break locked in a 2-2 scoreline.
Rudiger scored an unfortunate own goal in the 78th minute. However, Dani Carvajal came to his team’s rescue when he scored the equaliser in the 85th minute which took the match to extra-time.
Stefan Savic scored an unfortunate own goal as well in the 116th minute before Brahim Diaz put the contest to bed when he scored in the dying embers of the game. The match finished with Real Madrid securing a brilliant 5-3 win after extra time.
