Conor Gallagher was rumored to join Tottenham Hotspur last summer, but it didn’t happen. Now, those rumours are gaining momentum again. He’s become a regular in Chelsea’s midfield after returning from loan at Crystal Palace. As a product of Chelsea’s youth program, the 23-year-old had to wait for his chance in the first team at Stamford Bridge.
Conor Gallagher to leave Chelsea?
Chelsea are yet to talk about a new contract with Conor Gallagher, even though his current one ends in a year and a half, as per reports. The new owners who came in May 2022 don’t want players to reach the end of their contracts and leave the club without getting anything in return.
The Blues were okay with their temporary captain leaving in the summer, even though he played an important role in pre-season with Mauricio Pochettino. Many teams were interested in signing him. Gallagher received offers in the summer of 2022 and winter 2023. Now, as he has become a key player and improved his performance, the 23-year-old wants to sign a new contract. There’s more competition in the midfield, and the club needs to sell players to manage their finances. Although talks haven’t started, there are reports that there have been no discussions between Gallagher and the club yet.
“There’s no sense a new deal for Conor Gallagher is close. If Chelsea get offers of say £60m or there or thereabouts, the owners will have something to think about,” David Ornstein said.

People are interested in Gallagher because he’s a great player—committed, strong, and getting better. He’s usually one of Chelsea’s best players, if not in the top three. Although he has 18 months left on his contract, Chelsea has talked about keeping him, and he might stay. Whether he leaves or stays isn’t decided, but Chelsea has to figure out if selling him is worth the likely criticism they’ll face. Selling him could bring in money for other deals, but realistically, this transfer window won’t be as busy for Chelsea as the last few.
