Chelsea are interested in Jonathan David, a striker from Lille, because he’s been playing really well in the French league. As per reports, many teams are thinking about getting David in the transfer window. The Canadian player seems like a good choice for Chelsea to improve their attack since their current forwards, Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja, haven’t been performing well.
BBC Pundit on Jonathan David to Chelsea
Even though there hasn’t been much news lately, people have always believed that Chelsea will get a new striker in January. Because Christopher Nkunku has been dealing with injuries for a long time, Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t have a reliable goal scorer for his team.
It’s obvious that Chelsea needs a new striker in January. However, getting a new goal-scorer might depend on Armando Broja finding a new team. Chelsea has set a high price for Broja, and that could be a problem for teams like West Ham United and Fulham. Journalist Luke Edwards mentioned on the BBC’s ‘Transfer Gossip Daily‘ that Chelsea really wants to make things happen. He said if Chelsea can sell Broja soon, they might make a move for Lille striker Jonathan David.
Edwards said that Chelsea trying to get a new striker like David in the last few days of January is definitely a possibility.
“Chelsea not signing a striker this month is one of my big surprises. If you had asked me for my predictions of what would happen this month when we started, I would have thought Chelsea signing a striker would be one of them, Newcastle signing a midfielder and Arsenal signing a striker. But none of these things have happened. Chelsea are still trying to sell Broja to someone, Fulham are sniffing around. They are vaguely tempted,” Edwards said.
The Telegraph's Luke Edwards: "Whether they [Chelsea] can get Jonathan David this month, I don't know, but I wouldn't rule it out entirely, but it will all be dependent on on players being sold."

“They might have had a bid turned down over the weekend. They may have a need for a centre-forward. I could not imagine Fulham would be daft enough to spend £50 or £60 million on Broja. But they are desperately trying to offload someone. This is the story of this week. I think the next few days could be pretty dramatic actually. Everyone is trying to sell players to buy. If Chelsea can persuade Fulham to give them money for Broja, that would free them up to do something like this [Jonathan] David deal. He would fit the age profile, he’s not had a particularly good season this year, but he has a good record at Lille. He would cost around £51 million and is only 23. We have seen this with Chelsea, they are trying to build this young team, and it’s probably the first sign of a bit of sense coming in. Whether they can get David this month I’m not sure, but I wouldn’t rule it out entirely,” he added.
