In a recent report, Sport stated that Barcelona have been offered a chance to sign former Manchester United playmaker Jesse Lingard who is currently a free agent. It has been revealed that the English attacker has offered his services to the Catalan club.
Lingard’s Recent Spell At Nottingham
Lingard finds himself without a club at the moment after being released by Nottingham Forest last summer. The English talent managed to find the back of the net on two occasions and secured two assists in 20 appearances during his time at the City Ground.
However, frequent injuries have derailed the 31-year-old’s career of late. He is currently a free agent which makes him a realistic target for Barcelona to consider this month. The Catalan club’s dire financial situation could see them take a chance on someone like Lingard who was performing at a high level for Manchester United a few years ago.
The English sensation also won some major trophies during his time in England and has got the right mindset to serve as a useful player in Xavi’s match-day squad in the coming seasons.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Get Lingard On Board?
Lingard is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some driving runs in and around the opponent’s penalty box. The English talent can even shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to engineer some inviting chances for others around him when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also play as a winger if needed.
At 31, Lingard might still have a few years left in him to play at a high level. However, he has been quite injury-prone in recent years which makes him a risky option for Barcelona to consider this January.
Still, Lingard is available as a free agent and could be well worth the gamble if the Catalan club want to improve their attack before the end of this winter transfer window. His experience and winning mindset could help Barca compete across all fronts in the future. Thus, Xavi should focus on getting Lingard on board on a free transfer before the end of this month.
