In a recent report, Calciomercato mentioned that Aston Villa have been offered a chance to recruit Roma left-back Leonardo Spinazzola. It has been claimed that the Villans have been given an opportunity to bring the Italian talent to Villa Park this January.
Spinazzola’s Solid Season In Serie A
Spinazzola has enjoyed a decent campaign at the Italian club as he has put in a handful of promising displays on the left side of their backline. The 30-year-old has scored one goal and grabbed three assists in 17 matches for Roma this season across all competitions.
The Italian sensation has proven his worth at times by averaging 0.8 tackles, 1.4 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Serie A football. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 79.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Roma will run out at the end of this campaign which could open the door for the Villans to sign him on a cut-price deal this month.
Is Spinazzola A Decent Choice For Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery?
Spinazzola is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs on the left flank. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the opponent’s half and can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition inside his half.
We can expect Spinazzola to bring more quality and depth to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s squad. He would also help the Villans compete across all fronts over the next couple of years.
However, at 30, Spinazzola will only be a good signing for the West Midlands club in the short-term. He has what it takes to offer some healthy competition for Lucas Digne and Alex Moreno in the race to secure a regular starting spot at Villa Park.
All in all, the Italian would be a decent choice for the Villans to consider before the end of this winter transfer window. However, it remains to be seen whether Spinazzola can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football if Emery can snap him up this January.
