Valdimarsson’s Impressive Rise In Swedish Football
Valdimarsson has enjoyed an impressive career at Elfsborg after putting in a lot of solid performances in goal for them in Swedish football. The 22-year-old has made 49 senior appearances for the Swedish outfit thus far, conceding 40 goals and earning 21 clean sheets in multiple competitions.
The Icelandic sensation has caught the eye with his performances in Swedish football. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level.
His current contract at the Swedish club will run out at the end of 2027. Therefore, Aston Villa will have to make a good offer if they want to win the race to land Valdimarsson before the end of this winter transfer window.
Is Valdimarsson A Good Option For Aston Villa Head Coach Unai Emery?
Valdimarsson is a good handler of the ball and has got decent reflexes under his belt that help him make a few solid saves at the back. He usually clears the danger when needed but needs to find a way to be more accurate when passing the ball from inside his penalty box. Standing at 1.95m, Valdimarsson can be a towering presence inside his half.
The Icelandic sensation is still quite inexperienced and would need time to prove his worth at a top club like Aston Villa. Still, Unai Emery should focus on getting a deal done for Valdimarsson as he has the potential to become a world-class keeper someday.
At 22, the future looks quite promising for the Elfsborg keeper as long as he continues to improve with each season. All in all, Valdimarsson would be an excellent option for the West Midlands club to pursue in the long run. However, there are some concerns over whether the Icelandic keeper can adapt to the high intensity of Premier League football if Emery manage to get him on board in this January transfer period.
