In a recent report, Bild mentioned that Aston Villa are eager to land Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus this month. It has been claimed that the Villans will face competition from West Ham United in the race to sign the German talent.
Neuhaus’ Decent Run Of Form In Bundesliga
Neuhaus is having an impressive campaign at the German club after putting in a series of decent performances for them in the middle of the park. The 26-year-old has scored three times and picked up a couple of assists in 18 appearances for Monchengladbach this season in various competitions.
The German sensation has made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 1.2 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from midfield after completing 85.8% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
Neuhaus is under contract at the German club until the summer of 2027. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Villans to sign him on the cheap this January.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Get Neuhaus On Board?
Neuhaus is proficient at generating some space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
Neuhaus mainly plays as a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate as an attacking midfielder or as a holding midfielder if asked to do so. However, the German sensation needs to work hard on improving the defensive side of his game if he wants to become a world-class player in his position someday.
At the moment, Neuhaus is enjoying his football in Germany but is still waiting to earn a regular spot in Monchengladbach’s first team. We can expect him to bring more energy and depth to Aston Villa‘s midfield. He is good enough to challenge for a regular spot in Unai Emery‘s starting XI.
Furthermore, Neuhaus could help the Villans clinch a European spot in the Premier League this season. Thus, the West Midlands club would be wise to get the German midfield ace on board in this January transfer window.
