In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that Arsenal are pushing hard to recruit Aston Villa star, Douglas Luiz. It has been mentioned that the Gunners could face competition in the form of Liverpool and Barcelona in pursuit of the Brazilian midfielder.
Luiz’s Impressive Run Of Form At Villa Park This Season
Luiz has enjoyed an excellent campaign at the West Midlands club as he has put in several influential performances for them in the middle of the park. The Rio de Janeiro-born talent has registered seven goals and six assists in 30 matches for the Villans this season across various competitions.
The 25-year-old has been a decent performer in both halves based on his average of 2.1 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 1.9 shots, 1.5 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield after completing 88.6% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Villa Park will expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, the Gunners would struggle to get him on the cheap in this January transfer window.
Is Luiz A Dream Option For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Luiz is a tough-tackling midfielder who can read the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.
The Brazilian midfield ace can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the eye to set up a few inviting chances for his teammates up top. He is a powerful runner with the ball as well.
Someone with Luiz’s skillset would no doubt enhance the quality of Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s midfield department. He is good enough to secure a regular spot in the North London club‘s first team.
Furthermore, Luiz could help the Gunners compete for a lot of major trophies in the coming seasons. Thus, he would be a dream option for Arsenal to consider this month. However, with Aston Villa currently in contention of securing a top-four spot, the Gunners might struggle to get a deal done for him before the end of this transfer period.
