In a recent report, Todofichajes claimed that Arsenal are leading the race to land Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. It has been stated that the Gunners are ahead of Barcelona in the race to recruit the Spanish talent this month.
Zubimendi’s Decent Run Of Form In Spanish Football
Zubimendi has enjoyed a solid season at the La Liga club after putting in a series of dominant displays at the centre of their midfield. The 24-year-old has found the back of the net on four occasions and grabbed one assist in 29 matches for Real Sociedad during this campaign on all fronts.
The Spanish sensation has offered adequate protection for his teammates at the back and deserves credit for averaging 1.7 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.7 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 85.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Spanish club will expire in the summer of 2027. Hence, it won’t be easy for Arsenal to get him on board in this winter transfer period.
Is Zubimendi A Decent Choice For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Zubimendi is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when required and is a tidy passer of the ball as well. Zubimendi can also chip in by scoring a few important goals for his team.
At the moment, the Spaniard is enjoying his football at Real Sociedad. He is primarily a defensive midfielder who can also play as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so.
Zubimendi will add more bite and steel to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s midfield department. He is good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at the London club in the coming seasons.
At 24, the future looks quite promising for Zubimendi. However, there are some question marks over whether he can cope with the high intensity of English football. Still, there is no denying that Zubimendi would be a great choice for the Gunners to consider before the end of this transfer window.
