In a recent report, journalist Shaun Webbley revealed that Arsenal are keeping tabs on Royal Antwerp midfielder Arthur Vermeeren. It is understood that the Gunners are leading the chase to land the Belgian whizkid.
Vermeeren’s Impressive Rise In Belgian Football
The 18-year-old has caught the eye with his performances in Belgian football during this campaign after he put in a few productive displays for Antwerp in the final third. Vermeeren has already made 65 appearances for the Belgian club thus far, scoring three goals and grabbing eight assists on all fronts.
The talented teenager has been a decent performer at the centre of the park as he is averaging 1.8 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.6 clearances, 0.6 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Jupiler Pro League this season. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield after making 87% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Antwerp will run out in the summer of 2026 which could make it difficult for the Gunners to land him before the end of this transfer window.
Arsenal Are Keeping Tabs On Vermeeren: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Vermeeren is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well. The Belgian prospect can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range. He is a good dribbler with the ball as well.
However, Vermeeren is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level. Still, there is no denying that he is a prospect to watch out for in the future. Hence, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta would be wise to step up his pursuit of the Belgian wonderkid as he would be a great signing for the Gunners in the long run.
At 18, Vermeeren has the potential to become a generational talent. Thus, the North London club should try everything they can to get him on board before the end of this month.
