In a recent report, The Telegraph mentioned that Arsenal are eyeing a move for Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee. It has been stated that the Gunners are showing interest in recruiting the Dutch centre-forward this summer.
Zirkzee’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
Zirkzee is having a decent campaign at the Italian club after putting in a series of productive displays as the focal point of their attack. The Dutch talent has been involved in 22 matches for Bologna this season, finding the back of the net on eight occasions and earning four assists across various competitions.
The 22-year-old has been a good performer in the final third based on his average of 2.3 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game in Serie A football. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after completing 75.8% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Zirkzee’s current contract at Bologna will run out in the summer of 2026 which would make it difficult for the Gunners to land him on the cheap this month.
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Get Zirkzee On Board?
Zirkzee is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with the ball in the final third. He is proficient at creating some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. The Dutch talent can even create some decent openings for others around him in the opposition half. Standing at 1.93m, Zirkzee can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. However, he is still unproven at the highest level.
At the moment, Zirkzee is playing some of the best football of his young career. He would undoubtedly enhance the quality of Arsenal‘s frontline. Plus, the Dutch attacker is good enough to fight for a regular spot in Mikel Arteta‘s first team. At 22, the future looks quite promising for the player.
Therefore, the Gunners would be wise to go all out to get Zirkzee on board before the end of this January transfer window. However, Arteta would have to be patient with his progress before he can unlock the best out of the talented youngster at the North London club.
