In a recent report, talkSPORT claimed that West Ham United are ready to cash in on Maxwel Cornet this January. It is understood that the Hammers are hoping to sell the Ivory Coast talent in the upcoming winter transfer period.
Cornet’s Lack Of Game Time In English Football
The 27-year-old has struggled to earn regular playing time at the London Stadium this season as he has often found himself on David Moyes’ bench. Cornet has failed to find the back of the net but has done well to secure one assist in six appearances for West Ham this season across all competitions.
The Ivory Coast wide player has all of his appearances off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.3 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the UEFA Europa League. However, he has been tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 81.8% in European football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the East London club will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, West Ham are under no pressure to let him go when the transfer window reopens this January.
Should West Ham United Let Cornet Go This January?
Cornet is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and has got the vision to engineer a few good chances for others around him when he is playing well on the pitch. However, he has to find a way to improve his productivity in the final third.
The talented winger is in dire need of more game time if he wants to get his career back on track. Hence, it is only fair to the player if West Ham United boss David Moyes lets Cornet go this January.
At 27, Cornet is about to enter his prime and could benefit from sealing a move away from the East London club. All in all, Moyes should focus on cashing in on him this winter and using the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a capable replacement.
