In a recent report, Football.London mentioned that West Ham United are eager to recruit Chelsea ace Ian Maatsen. It has been stated that the Hammers are keen on bringing the Dutch full-back to the London Stadium next year.
Maatsen’s Growing Frustrations In English Football
Maatsen has endured a frustrating season at the London club as he has struggled to earn a regular starting spot in Mauricio Pochettino’s first XI. The Dutch talent has featured in just 11 matches for the Blues during this campaign across all competitions.
The 21-year-old has made all of his appearances off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.3 tackles, 0.3 interceptions, 0.4 clearances, 0.3 shots and 0.2 key passes per game in the Premier League. However, he has been a bit sloppy when distributing possession from the left flank based on his pass completion rate of 73.2% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Maatsen is under contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2025. Hence, it makes sense for the Hammers to try and arrange a cut-price deal for him this winter or at the end of this campaign.
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Snap Maatsen Up Next Year?
Maatsen is a tough-tackling full-back who can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed and can make a few decent runs with the ball as well.
The Dutch sensation can create some meaningful openings for his teammates when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch. He mainly operates as a left-back but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so by his manager.
Maatsen could fancy a move to West Ham in search of more playing time in the coming years. Thus, it is only logical for David Moyes to arrange a move to lure him to the London Stadium in 2024.
At 21, Maatsen has got the potential to become a future star at the East London club. Therefore, Moyes should try everything in his power to snap the Chelsea ace up when the transfer window reopens at the start of next month.
