In a recent report, renowned journalist Pete O’Rourke offered an update on the future of West Ham United striker Danny Ings. It has been stated that the Hammers are open to selling the English centre-forward in the upcoming January transfer window.
Ings’ Growing Frustrations At West Ham
Ings has endured a frustrating spell at the London Stadium as he has struggled to nail down a regular spot in David Moyes’ first XI. The 31-year-old has made 15 appearances for the Hammers this season but is still waiting to find the back of the net or assist a goal for them across various competitions.
The veteran forward has seen most of his game time come off the bench based on his average of 0.1 shots and 0.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has also lacked quality when distributing possession in the final third as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 63.3% in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the East London club will expire in the summer of 2025. However, his lack of form could see David Moyes cash in on him when the transfer window reopens at the start of next month.
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Cash In On Ings?
On his day, Ings can be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal. He can create some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. Ings is primarily a centre-forward but can also play alongside someone else on the offensive end of the field if asked to do so by his manager. However, the English striker has struggled to prove his worth in front of the opposition goal this season.
Therefore, it is only logical for West Ham boss David Moyes to cash in on Ings this winter and use the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a suitable replacement during the January transfer window.
At 31, Ings has only got a few good years left in him. He is currently not a regular starter at the London Stadium and could benefit from a change of scenery in search of more game time next year. With all things considered, the East London club should focus on letting Ings leave next month.
