In a recent report, The Sun offered an update on the future of Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah. It has been claimed that the Gunners have chosen not to sell the English striker in the upcoming January transfer window.
Nketiah’s Up And Down Season In English Football
Nketiah has struggled to be consistent for the North London club this season but has done well to put in a series of productive displays as the focal point of their attack. The 24-year-old has banged in six goals and secured four assists in 24 matches for Arsenal during this campaign in various competitions.
The English talent has been a decent performer in the final third based on his average of 1.6 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been careful when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after making 82.4% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Emirates Stadium will expire in the summer of 2027. Hence, there is no immediate need for Mikel Arteta to cash in on Nketiah in the upcoming winter transfer period.
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Retain Nketiah’s Services?
Nketiah is proficient at finding space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the opponent’s half and can make some clever runs with the ball in the final third.
The English centre-forward can help the Gunners compete across all fronts in the coming seasons. He is also tidy with his link-up play up top. Thus, it makes no sense for the Gunners to cash in on him when the transfer window reopens this January.
At 24, Nketiah has got his best years ahead of him. Hence, Arteta can expect to get the best out of him at the North London club over the next few years. With all things considered, Arsenal should consider retaining Nketiah’s services for the long run as he could help them compete for some major trophies in the not-too-distant future.
The best is yet to come from Nketiah, so Arteta would be right to keep hold of him beyond this winter.
