In a recent interview with Tottenham News, Paul Robinson urged Tottenham Hotspur to offer Heung-min Son a new contract. Robinson said, “Well it would be a statement signing. Looking from the outside in, I can’t imagine Son playing for another team, you just associate him with Tottenham.
“The fanbase that they’ve got, the support that he’s got personally and the way that he is at the club, the relationship that he’s got, I can’t imagine a Tottenham team in the next few years without Son in it.
“He’s the captain, he’s taken that mantle on incredibly well, his goalscoring’s got back to a level where you would want it to be this year.
“And he’s just a fantastic character, he looks a great person to have around the dressing room in fact I know he is a great person to have around the dressing room, everywhere he goes he just brings light to a room, his personality’s infectious, he cares, he loves the club.
“There’s no reason to not sign him on as long a contract as he would sign.”
Son’s Decent Numbers At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium This Season
Son is having another fine campaign at the North London club after putting in several influential displays for them in the final third. The South Korea international has banged in 11 goals and picked up four assists in 19 matches for Spurs this season across all competitions.
The 31-year-old has been a reliable performer up top and deserves credit for averaging 2.5 shots, 1.8 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even distributed the ball well in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 82.9% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Tottenham Hotspur Told To Offer Son A New Contract: Good Move For Both Parties?
Heung-min Son is an excellent dribbler with the ball and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third. He has proven himself to be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and is currently serving as Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s captain.
Hence, it is only logical for Spurs to try and tie him down to a new contract as it will be a good move for both the player and the North London club in the short-term. At 31, Son might still have a few years left in him to play at the top of his game.
Furthermore, the South Korean sensation could help Tottenham compete for some major trophies in the future.
