In a recent report, Marca mentioned that Real Madrid are set to rival Barcelona for Feyenoord forward Santiago Gimenez. It has been stated that Los Blancos are eager to seal a move for the Mexican striker in 2024.
Gimenez’s Impressive Record In Dutch Football This Season
Gimenez has been enjoying a rich vein of form in the Dutch Eredivisie this season as he has produced a series of impressive displays for Feyenoord in the final third. The Mexican talent has banged in 20 goals and earned five assists in 22 matches for the Dutch outfit during this campaign across all competitions.
The 22-year-old has led the line well by averaging 3.9 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Eredivisie. However, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 70.2% in the top tier of Dutch football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Feyenoord will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, it won’t be easy for Los Blancos to win the race to land him on a cut-price deal next year.
Is Gimenez A Good Option For Real Madrid?
Gimenez can create some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal and has got the vision to create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third. The Mexican sensation is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and has proven himself to be a lethal finisher in front of the opponent’s goal. However, he has to figure out a way to improve his ball distribution on the offensive end of the field.
We can expect Gimenez to inject more goals into Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s attack. At 22, the future looks quite promising for the Mexico international as long as he continues to improve with each year.
However, there are some concerns over whether Gimenez can make a smooth transition to life in Spain if the Madrid giants can devise a way to get him on board soon. With all things considered, the Feyenoord striker would be a great option for Los Blancos to pursue in the long run.
