In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Newcastle United have launched a move for Genoa defender Radu Dragusin. It has been stated that the Magpies are eyeing a £26m move for the Romanian talent next year.
Dragusin’s Decent Run Form In Serie A This Season
Dragusin is having a solid campaign at the Italian club as he has put in a string of eye-catching performances for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The 21-year-old has participated in 16 matches for his current employers this season, finding the back of the net once and earning one assist in the process across all competitions.
The Romania international has proven his worth by averaging 0.8 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 4.8 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the back after making 82.3% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Genoa will run out in the summer of 2027 which would make it difficult for the Magpies to sign him on a cut-price deal in 2024.
Is Dragusin The Right Fit For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Dragusin is a tough-tackling defender who can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his side inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.
The Romanian sensation is primarily a central defender but can also function as a full-back on either flank if told to do so. Standing at 1.91m, he can be a dominant presence in the air as well. We can expect Dragusin to add more bite and steel to Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe‘s defensive department.
At 21, Dragusin has the potential to become a future star in European football. Hence, he would be an excellent acquisition for the Magpies in the long run. However, there are some concerns over whether the Genoa prospect can cope with the high intensity of Premier League football.
Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting someone with Dragusin’s potential. With all things considered, the Romanian defensive ace would be a great fit for Newcastle‘s needs in the long run.
