In a recent interview (via The Mirror), Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez addressed his future amid interest from Real Madrid. Alvarez said,
“The truth is that I am very happy at Manchester City.
“I have been at the club for a little more than a year. I feel very happy with everything we have achieved.”
Alvarez’s Impressive Form At The Etihad Stadium This Season
Alvarez is having a great campaign at the Mancunian club as he has put in a string of influential displays for them in the final third. The Argentine sensation has banged in ten goals and grabbed nine assists in 26 matches for Pep Guardiola’s side this season across all competitions.
The 23-year-old has been a consistent performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 2.4 shots, 2.4 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when interchanging possession with his teammates after making 85.9% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Alvarez is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2028 which would make it difficult for Los Blancos to get a deal done for him next year.
What Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Do With Regards To Alvarez?
Alvarez excels at creating a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in on-target. He has got the vision to engineer a few inviting chances for others around him in the attacking end of the field. The Argentina international is a technically gifted footballer who can make a few dangerous runs with the ball in and around the opponent’s penalty box. He can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top.
Alvarez is primarily a striker but can also operate as a right-sided wide player if told to do so. However, he is currently enjoying his football at Man City, so Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti would find it difficult to lure him to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in 2024.
At the moment, Los Blancos have got no choice but to focus on some of their other transfer targets going into the January transfer window. However, Alvarez would be a great, long-term option for the Madrid giants to pursue in the future.
