In a recent interview with talkSPORT, journalist Loic Tanzi revealed that Liverpool are in the running for Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe. Tanzi said,
“Liverpool wanted him (Mbappe) when he was playing for Monaco.
“[Liverpool manager Jurgen] Klopp went to see him and they were negotiating while they were on the plane.
“The relationship between him, Liverpool, and Klopp is there. I think they have a chance.”
Mbappe’s Stellar Record In French Football This Season
Mbappe has enjoyed a fine run of form at the French club as he has put in a string of impressive displays for them on the offensive end of the field. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net on 21 occasions and earned two assists in 22 matches for PSG this season across multiple competitions.
The French forward has been a consistent performer in the final third based on his average of 5.1 shots, 1.5 key passes and 2.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been careful when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half as evidenced by his pass success rate of 85.5% in the French top flight (stats via whoscored).
Is Mbappe A Dream Signing For Liverpool?
Mbappe excels at engineering a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to orchestrate a few promising chances for his teammates in the opposition half and can make a few driving runs with the ball out in the wide areas. Mbappe is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function as a right-winger or as a centre-forward if told to do so by his manager.
The France international has been a goal-scoring machine for PSG over the past few years. Hence, he would no doubt be a dream signing for the Reds if Jurgen Klopp can find a way to win the race for his services in the future.
Mbappe will help Liverpool challenge for plenty of major honours over the next decade. At 25, he will only improve over the next couple of seasons which makes him an excellent fit for the Merseyside club‘s needs at the moment. Thus, Klopp would be wise to go all out to recruit him next year.
