In a recent report, Calciomercato mentioned that Everton are still in the running for Juventus defender Federico Gatti after failing to land him last summer. It is understood that the Toffees could face competition in the form of Nottingham Forest in the race to land the Italian centre-half next year.
Gatti’s Impressive Run Of Form In Italian Football
The 25-year-old is having a decent campaign at the Turin club as he has been responsible for putting in a run of solid displays at the heart of their defence. Gatti has scored three times in 13 matches for Juventus this season across all fronts.
The Italian defensive ace has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.1 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 3.3 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from the back after making 85.3% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2028. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Toffees to sign Gatti on the cheap if they decide to move in for him next year.
Is Gatti A Good Option For Everton Boss Sean Dyche?
Gatti is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the offensive.
Standing at 1.90m, the Italian talent can use his strong frame to win his fair share of 50-50 aerial duels. He is even proficient at playing his way out from the back and will only get better with each year.
We can expect Gatti to add more bite and steel to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s defence. He has what it takes to help the Toffees secure a top-half finish in the Premier League this season. At 25, the Juventus ace has got his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy option for the Merseyside club to pursue this January or at the end of this campaign. However, only time will tell whether he can adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football.
