West Ham United clashed heads with Liverpool at Anfield earlier tonight as they hoped to secure a positive result in the quarterfinal stage of the EFL Cup. The Hammers made a lackluster start to the game and conceded the opening goal in the 28th minute when Dominik Szoboszlai scored with an excellent strike from long range. David Moyes’ men went into the half-time break 1-0 down on the scoreline.
Curtis Jones doubled Liverpool’s advantage in the 56th minute before Cody Gakpo scored for the home team just 15 minutes later. Jarrod Bowen netted a consolation goal for the Hammers in the 77th minute. However, West Ham conceded two more goals in the latter stages and crashed to a poor 5-1 defeat on the road which knocked them out of the EFL Cup.

Areola made some solid saves during the game but conceded five goals tonight.

He had to defend a lot but was far from convincing inside his half.

He made a lot of important clearances but struggled to influence the game in the Liverpool half.

Alvarez anchored the midfield well at times but was disappointing on the ball.
RW: Mohammed Kudus – 6/10
He made some good runs with the ball but failed to threaten the opponent’s goal.

Benrahma struggled to cause problems for the Liverpool defenders.

He was quiet for most of the game and lacked quality when defending inside his half.
