In a recent report, Calciomercato claimed that Barcelona are prepared to move in for Genoa centre-half Radu Dragusin next year. It has been stated that the Catalan club are open to launching a €30m offer for the Romanian defender.
Dragusin’s Impressive Run Of Form In Serie A
Dragusin is experiencing a solid campaign at the Italian club after producing a series of dominant displays at the heart of their backline. The Romania international has been involved in 20 matches for Genoa this season, netting one goal and picking up one assist in multiple competitions.
The 21-year-old has been a solid performer inside his half as he is averaging 0.8 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 4.4 clearances per game in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from the back after making 81.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Dragusin’s current deal at Genoa will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Barcelona to snap him up on the cheap next year.
What Will Dragusin Add To Barcelona Boss Xavi’s Side?
Dragusin loves a tackle and can scan the danger well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when he can on the defensive end of the field and is a tidy passer of the ball as well. Standing at 1.91m, Dragusin can be a towering presence inside his penalty box and can chip in by winning his fair share of 50-50 aerial duels.
The Romanian talent is primarily a centre-back but can also operate as a full-back on either flank if asked to do so. We can expect Dragusin to add more bite and steel to Barcelona head coach Xavi’s defence.
The Genoa ace is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp in the coming seasons. At 21, Dragusin has still got a lot of room to grow as a footballer and would be a worthy target for the Catalan club in the long run. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in Spanish football if Xavi can find a way to bring him on board in 2024.
