In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Barcelona are eyeing a move for Fluminense midfielder Andre. It has been stated that the Catalan club could move in for the Brazilian talent when the transfer window commences at the start of next month.
Andre’s Rapid Rise In Brazilian Football
The 22-year-old has already proven himself to be a consistent performer for Fluminense after operating at a high level for them over the past few years. Andre has made 170 senior appearances for the Brazilian outfit so far, scoring four goals and grabbing three assists in all competitions.
The Brazilian midfield ace has given a good account of himself at the centre of the park based on his average of 1.8 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 1.0 clearances and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in Brasileirao. He has even been excellent with his ball distribution after making 94.8% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Fluminense will run out at the end of 2026 which would make it difficult for Barca to sign him on the cheap in the upcoming January transfer window.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Get Andre On Board?
Andre is a tough-tackling midfielder who can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed and can make a few driving runs with the ball from midfield. The Brazilian is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder or as a central defender if asked to do so.
We can expect Andre to bring more bite and steel to Barcelona head coach Xavi‘s midfield department. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first team place at the Nou Camp over the next few years.
At 22, Andre has the potential to become a future star in European football. Therefore, Xavi would be wise to go all out to get the South American midfielder on board in the winter transfer period. However, only time will tell whether Andre can make a smooth transition to life in Spain if Xavi can find a way to get a deal done for him soon.
