In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Barcelona are eager to land LOSC Lille forward Jonathan David. It has been mentioned that the Catalan club are keen on acquiring the services of the Canadian striker next year.
David’s Impressive Form In Ligue 1
David has enjoyed a decent campaign at the French club as he has managed to put in a run of productive displays for them in the final third. The 23-year-old has banged in seven goals and picked up two assists in 22 matches for Lille this season across all fronts.
The Canada international has led the line well and deserves credit for averaging 2.1 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 80.8% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Lille will expire in the summer of 2025. Hence, it makes sense for Barcelona to try and arrange a cut-price move for him at the end of this campaign.
What Will David Bring To Barcelona?
David is proficient at finding space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. The Canadian attacker is primarily a centre-forward but can also play as a secondary striker alongside someone else if asked to do so by his manager.
At 23, David has his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for Barcelona to consider this January or at the end of this season. He will bring more firepower to Barca boss Xavi’s midfield department.
David has what it takes to nail down a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp in the coming seasons. Plus, he would serve as an ideal replacement for Robert Lewandowski at the Catalan club in the long run. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if Xavi manage to get him on board in 2024.
