In a recent report, The Independent claimed that Arsenal are leading the race for Brentford star Ivan Toney. It has been stated that the Gunners will have to rival Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land the English forward.
Toney’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Premier League Last Season
Toney has a great campaign at the English club recently as he was responsible for putting in several productive displays for them in the final third. He is yet to play for the Bees this season as he is suspended through sports court – cross-competition until January 17, 2024. The 27-year-old found the back of the net 21 times and earned five assists in 35 matches for Brentford in the previous campaign on all fronts.
The English centre-forward led the line well for his team and deserves credit for averaging 2.8 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he was a bit careless with his ball distribution after making just 62% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Brentford will run out at the end of next season. Hence, the Gunners could potentially land him on a cut-price deal in 2024.
What Will Toney Bring To Arsenal?
Toney can create a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has proven himself to be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and can create the odd chance for his teammates as well in the final third. However, the English talent has to find a way to improve his link-up play in the opposition half.
We can expect Toney to bring more firepower to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s attacking department. He has what it takes to help the Gunners win the Premier League title race this season as long as he can steer clear of injuries over the next few months.
At 27, Toney is about to enter his prime soon and would be a worthy addition to the North London club‘s squad this January. He already knows the English top-flight well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Emirates Stadium if Arteta can devise a way to get him on board next year.
