Newcastle United locked horns with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge earlier tonight as they hoped to secure a win in the quarterfinal stage of the EFL Cup. The Magpies made a decent start to the contest and got their noses ahead in the 16th minute when Callum Wilson scored the opening goal. The Tyneside club managed to get to the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.
Mykhailo Mudryk scored a late leveller for the home team as Newcastle had to settle for a 1-1 draw at the full-time whistle.
Eddie Howe’s men ended up losing the clash on penalties by a 4-2 margin which knocked them out of the EFL Cup.

Dubravka made some solid stops at the back and won’t be pleased about conceding a late equaliser. He failed to make a difference in the shootout.

Livramento gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field.
CM: Lewis Miley – 7/10
He anchored the midfield well and made one decent run with the ball.
CM: Bruno Guimaraes – 7/10
Guimaraes anchored the midfield well and made one good run with the ball. He scored his penalty in the shootout.
CM: Sean Longstaff – 7/10
He came back to defend when required but lacked quality on the ball.
RW: Miguel Almiron – 7/10
Almiron did his fair share of defending and made two good chances in the final third.
ST: Callum Wilson – 7/10
The English forward caused some concerns for the Chelsea defenders and managed to get his name on the scoresheet in the 16th minute. He also converted his spotkick in the shootout.
LW: Anthony Gordon – 6/10
He struggled to catch the eye and was replaced in the 51st minute.
