In a recent interview with Caughtoffside, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the future of Arsenal defender Ben White. Romano said,
“Talks between Ben White and Arsenal continue to progress well – all parties want the same, so the agreement is getting closer, but I can’t say for sure yet when it will all be finalised.
“Sometimes these things take time, but there are no issues as far as I’m hearing – talks are ongoing, step by step.”
White’s Impressive Run Of Form In North London
White has enjoyed a solid campaign at the North London club and deserves credit for putting in a series of decent displays on the right side of Mikel Arteta’s defence. The English sensation has scored one goal in 18 matches for Arsenal this season across all competitions.
The 26-year-old has been a good performer inside his half based on his average of 1.1 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.9 clearances and 0.9 key passes per game in the Premier League. He has also been tidy when distributing the ball from the right flank after completing 86.1% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
What Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Do With Regards To White?
White is a tough-tackling defender who can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when required and can create the odd chance for his teammates going forward.
Standing at 1.86m, White can be a dominant presence in the air as well. At the moment, he is serving as an important member of Mikel Arteta’s match-day squad. Hence, it is no surprise that Arsenal are in talks with the player over a new contract.
At 26, White has his best years ahead of him, so Arteta would be wise to keep hold of him for the long run as he could help the Gunners compete for some major silverware in the not-too-distant future.
