In a recent report, The Daily Mirror claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a January move for Feyenoord ace Santiago Gimenez. It has been stated that Spurs are eyeing a move for the Mexican centre-forward in the upcoming winter transfer period.
Gimenez’s Impressive Form In Dutch Football
Gimenez has been scoring goals for fun in the Dutch Eredivisie and has established himself as a reliable performer at Feyenoord. The Mexican sensation has banged in 15 goals and picked up three assists in 15 matches for the Dutch outfit this season across all fronts.
The 22-year-old has led the line well for his current employers as he is averaging 3.7 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. However, he needs to find a way to improve his ball distribution up top based on his pass completion rate of 70.8% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Gimenez is under contract at the Dutch club until the summer of 2027. Hence, it would be difficult for Tottenham to arrange a move for him on the cheap this January or at the end of this campaign.
Is Gimenez A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur?
Gimenez excels at finding a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He has got the vision to create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet.
We can expect him to add more firepower to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s defence. He is good enough to offer some healthy competition for Heung-min Son at the North London club.
However, there are some concerns over whether Gimenez can cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Tottenham manage to sign him. At 22, he has his best years ahead of him which makes him a great option for Spurs to consider next year.
Gimenez could help Tottenham challenge across all fronts in the future. Hence, it makes sense for Postecoglu to go all out to secure the services of the Mexican talent when the transfer window commences at the start of January.
