In a recent interview with Gianluca DiMarzio, Italian agent Oscar Damiani tipped Real Madrid to land OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram. Damiani said,
“Where would I see Khéphren well? At Real Madrid. I recommended him to Carlo Ancelotti.”
Thuram’s Impressive Numbers In Ligue 1
Thuram is having a decent campaign at the French club after he put in a series of impressive displays at the centre of their midfield. The Italy-born talent has made ten appearances for Nice this season but has failed to score or create a goal for them so far on all fronts.
The French sensation has been a positive influence at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.4 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 1.5 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from inside his half after completing 89.5% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, Real Madrid could potentially sign Thuram on a cut-price deal at the end of this campaign.
Should Real Madrid Move In For Thuram?
Thuram can do a little bit of everything at the centre of the park. He is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team in the middle of the park. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and usually generates a lot of power with his shot attempts.
The French talent is a decent dribbler as well and has got the vision to orchestrate a few promising chances for others around him in the final third. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder or as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so.
We can expect Thuram to bring more quality and depth to Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s midfield. He might even help Los Blancos challenge for some major silverware over the next decade.
At 22, Thuram has the potential to become a world-class midfielder someday and would be an ideal, long-term successor to Luka Modric at the Madrid club. Thus, Real Madrid would be wise to move in for him this January or at the end of this season.
