In a recent report, Depor revealed that Real Madrid are facing tough competition for Bayer 04 Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong. It has been stated that Los Blancos will have to rival Chelsea and Liverpool in the race to land the Dutch talent next year.
Frimpong’s Impressive Form In The Bundesliga
Frimpong is having a decent campaign at the German club after putting in a string of impressive displays on the right side of their defence. The Dutch sensation has proven his worth by scoring five goals and grabbing seven assists in 16 appearances for Leverkusen this season on all fronts.
The 22-year-old has caught the eye at both ends of the field as he is averaging 0.9 tackles, 0.5 clearances, 1.6 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He has even taken care of the ball after making 79.5% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will expire in the summer of 2028 which would make it difficult for Los Blancos to win the race for his services next year.
Real Madrid Are Facing Tough Competition For Frimpong: Is He Worth The Fight?
Frimpong is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can even create some inviting chances for his teammates to score. The Dutch sensation can shoot the ball with venom from long range and is a good dribbler with the ball as well on the right flank.
We can expect Frimpong to bring more quality and depth to Real Madrid’s squad. He might even help Los Blancos challenge for some major trophies over the next decade.
At 22, Frimpong has got the ceiling to become one of the best players in his position someday. Hence, it makes sense for the Madrid giants to arrange a move to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium this January or at the end of this campaign. However, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to make a smooth transition to life in the Spanish capital.
Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting a player of Frimpong’s skillset. Hence, he will be well worth the fight as long as Los Blancos can get him on board for a fair price in the future.
