In a recent report, Tuttomercatoweb mentioned that Newcastle United are monitoring Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners. It has been claimed that the Magpies are hoping to secure the services of the Dutch talent in 2024.
Koopmeiners’ Decent Run Of Form At Atalanta
Koopmeiners is having a good campaign at the Italian club after he put in a handful of productive performances for them at the centre of the park. The 25-year-old has banged in three goals and picked up a couple of assists in 13 matches for Atalanta this season across various competitions.
The Dutch midfield ace has been a decent performer in the final third as he is averaging 1.8 shots, 2.4 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even accurate when distributing the ball from midfield based on his pass success rate of 81% in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, the Magpies will have a good opportunity to land him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.
What Will Koopmeiners Bring To Newcastle United?
Koopmeiners is a good dribbler with the ball and has got the vision to cut open the opponent’s defence with a killer pass in the final third. He can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range.
The Dutch sensation also works hard for his team defensively and can offer decent protection for his teammates at the back. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder or as an attacking midfielder if told to do so.
We can expect Koopmeiners to bring more quality to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s midfield department. He has what it takes to help the Magpies challenge on all fronts over the next few years.
At 25, Koopmeiners has got his prime years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Tyneside club to pursue next summer. However, it remains to be seen whether the player can adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football.
