Liverpool Echo has reported that Liverpool have expressed their interest in securing the services of the talented Ajax defender, Devyne Rensch. Despite being only 20 years old, Rensch has already amassed more than a hundred appearances for the Dutch giants, making him a highly regarded prospect. Additionally, it’s worth noting that Premier League competitors, Arsenal, are also reportedly considering him.
Rensch’s Performances For Ajax This Season
Rensch is having a decent campaign with the Dutch giants, even though they continue to struggle at the bottom of the table in Eridivisie. He has made 7 appearances for his side but has failed to be productive in the final third.
However, defensively the talented right-back has averaged 1.2 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 1.2 clearances per game in the Dutch first division. He has also been accurate when distributing possession to his teammates after completing 89.1% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Rensch currently holds a contract with Ajax, who find themselves in the Eredivisie’s relegation zone, which is set to run until 2025.
Should Klopp Bring Him To Liverpool?
One area that requires attention is the right-back position, where the Reds lack depth behind the exceptional Trent Alexander-Arnold. With this in mind, the young Dutch talent Devyne Rensch could emerge as a potential solution to bolster Liverpool’s squad and provide cover for their star right-back.
Bringing Rensch to Merseyside would not only provide much-needed depth but also healthy competition in the squad. Competition tends to bring the best out of players, and having someone like Rensch vying for the right-back position could push Alexander-Arnold to further elevate his game.
The Dutch defender is not limited to the right-back position; he can also operate as a center-back or in midfield when required. Klopp values versatility in his players, and Rensch’s ability to adapt to different roles could be a major asset for Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp faces a crucial decision regarding the right-back position at Anfield as they need to bring in reinforcements to add more depth. Devyne Rensch’s emergence as a versatile, young talent with considerable experience at Ajax makes him a candidate worth considering.
