In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Paul Brown tipped Everton talent James Garner to have a successful season at Goodison Park. Brown said,
“Yeah, I do think he’s an unsung hero. He’s becoming quite important to the team. He is also on a lot of dead balls at the moment. I think he’s played key roles in a lot of their wins so far. Not everything he does grabs the headlines, but it’s the small things in a game that make a difference sometimes. He’s been in the right areas of the pitch at the right moments to influence the game and I think he’s really grown into his role. I think he’s going to have a really good season for Everton, it’s something to be quite excited about.”
Garner’s Impressive Run Of Form At Merseyside
Garner has enjoyed a solid campaign at the Merseyside club as he put in a series of impressive performances at the centre of the park. The 22-year-old has scored two goals and earned one assist in 15 matches for Everton this season across various competitions.
The English talent has been a positive influence at both ends of the pitch and has done well to average 2.6 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 1.3 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 79.6% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
What Does The Future Hold For Garner?
Garner is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear his lines when the opposition are on the offensive and is a good passer of the ball.
The English sensation can shoot the ball with venom from long range and is an energetic dribbler as well. He is currently one of the first names in Everton boss Sean Dyche’s teamsheet.
At 22, Garner has got a bright future ahead of him at the Merseyside club. Hence, the Toffees should think about keeping hold of him for the long run as he has the potential to become a fan-favorite at Goodison Park.
