In a recent report, The Daily Express mentioned that Everton midfielder Amadou Onana is on the radar of Manchester United. It has been claimed that the Red Devils could capitalise on the Merseyside club’s recent financial struggles by pursuing the Belgian sensation in the January transfer window.
Onana’s Decent Form At Merseyside This Season
Onana has already put in a series of impressive displays at the centre of Sean Dyche’s midfield. The 22-year-old has registered one goal and two assists in 35 matches for the Toffees this season across multiple competitions.
The Dakar-born talent has anchored the midfield with conviction and deserves credit for averaging 2.5 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 1.3 shots and 0.7 key passes per game in the Premier League. He has even been careful when distributing the ball accurately from midfield after making 85% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Goodison Park will run out in the summer of 2027. However, Everton‘s recent financial struggles could see them cash in on Onana in the upcoming transfer window.
What Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Do With Regards To Onana?
Onana is a good tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his team on the defensive end of the field. He is primarily a holding midfielder but can also fill in as a central defender or as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so.
The English talent usually clears his lines when required and can shoot the ball with venom from long range. He can even create the odd chance for others around him up top and is a good dribbler as well.
Onana has done well to establish himself as one of the most influential midfielders in the Premier League. Hence, Dyche simply cannot afford to lose him if he wants his team to avoid relegation from the English top flight in the future.
Onana is currently a fan-favorite at Goodison Park and could help the Merseyside club do well in the second half of this campaign. With all things considered, Everton should focus on keeping hold of the Belgian talent beyond next summer as Dyche would find it difficult to replace a player of his skillset this winter.
